Elena Bautista, the administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), said that the reason why old marine vessels are still issued clearances to operate is because some politicians are lobbying for the shipping companies. Meanwhile, some congressmen are pressuring Bautista to reveal the names of those politicians who are lobbying for shipping companies.
It is not a surprise if our corrupt politicians are behind the deterioration of the Philippine maritime industry. These evildoers are behind to all deterioration that the various institutions are facing. Our congressmen and senators are abusing their power to make the heads of the government agencies subject to their whims. This power is at play during the yearly budget deliberations for the national government agencies.
